Robotic-assisted surgery can mean leaving the hospital in a day and resuming normal activities in two to three weeks. The da Vinci system provides surgeons with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control, which enables surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery even for complex conditions. da Vinci surgery offers many potential benefits over traditional surgery including:
- less pain
- fewer complications
- less blood loss
- shorter hospital stays
- low risk of infection
- quicker recovery and return to normal activities

Pasco Regional Medical Center is the first hospital in East Pasco to offer robotic surgery as a minimally invasive option for general and gynecologic surgery. The da Vinci® Surgical System utilizes robotic arms to make more graceful, finer movements than any human hand, but only as the surgeon directs. Our da Vinci® surgeons perform the same procedures that they’ve done traditionally or laparoscopically, only now with a much more refined and precise tool. Patients often report less pain, faster recoveries and are able to get back to their daily routines more quickly than with traditional surgical techniques.

Meet Leo, our da Vinci® Surgical robot. Leo was named by 15 year old, Kevin J. Hernandez from Dade City, who coined the winning name in Pasco Regional’s Name the Robot contest. Kevin named our robot after Leonardo da Vinci who is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived. While Kevin was the winner in our Name the Robot contest, our patients are the real winners because they can have minimally invasive surgery with less pain and a quicker recovery all thanks to our friend, Leo.
